The “most Norman of Norman markets”
The Maison de la Normandie, in association with the “Fête Nouormande” of Jersey, Jersey Tourism and BNP Paribas, is organising a special edition of the very popular Norman Market. It will take place from 9th to 12th June 2011 on the Weighbridge (St Helier) and various entertainments will be organised in order to celebrate the 1100th Anniversary of Normandy. The Maison de la Normandie et de la Manche is locally cooperating with the Société Jersiaise, Jersey Tourism and the Congrès des Parlers Nouormands et Jèrriais.
The most important day will be on Saturday 11th June, when the main events will take place.
A full day of events and celebrations including typical products, music entertainment, parades, costumes and dancing. A Norman traditional lace demonstration will also take place on the Weighbridge from 10.00 to 12.30 and from 14.00 to 16.00.The Norman Market is composed of 10 non-sedentary traders based in Normandy. The market will present the following products: cider-pommeau-calvados, cheeses, biscuits, honey products, pancakes, waffles, saucissons (dried sausages), bread and pastries (the « William » bread and the « Mathilde » baguette will be sold during this market!), fruits and vegetables, and finally art-craft products, made in Normandy.
For this special occasion, each product and its list of ingredients will be
translated in English, Norman and Jèrriais.The market’s spirit will of course be very festive as always.
