The heritage year a bliodgi Lé Nièr Pré auve des bieaux portraits des flieurs et des noms Jèrriais d’pliantes.
The heritage year has blogged the orchid field open day at Le Noir Pré with some lovely pics of the flowers and some Jèrriais plant names.
Lé Nièr Pré (a National Trust for Jersey property) means the black water-meadow in Jèrriais. It gets written in a semi-Frenchified form as Le Noir Pré, but you can easily tell it’s a Jèrriais placename because the adjective comes before the noun – compare Nièrmont (Noirmont), Lé Rouoge Bouoillon (Rouge Bouillon), La Vèrte Rue, Les Blianches Banques and so on.
