La Faîs’sie d’Cidre
Traditional granite apple crushers can still be seen here and there around Jersey, but usually as garden features or planters for flowers. In the past, farms made cider galore using the traditional apple crusher and cider press. Now every autumn large crowds attend La Faîs'sie d'Cidre at Hamptonne country life museum in Saint Lawrence. There, they get to see the traditional method of cider making, including how the apples were crushed and pressed. They get to have fun with apples (for the children), to drink cider (for the adults) and to strengthen their love of Jersey culture. There's singing, dancing, speaking and poetry reading about apples and cider drinking - in Jèrriais. Here's to your health!
